The 4th of July festivities have finally simmered down just in time to celebrate another holiday, this time honoring a different country. Bastille Day is an important day in France’s history. This French National Day is the anniversary of Storming the Bastille during the French Revolution on July 14, 1789, as well as the anniversary of Fête de la Fédération on July 14, 1790; a day celebrating the unity of the French people. “The parallels between the French & American revolutions are a testament to the common history of our two countries.” If you’re not French, Bastille Day is still a day for everyone filled with food, festivities, and fun – especially in New York City. Here are the two events you don’t want to miss this weekend in NYC!
Friday, July 13th - Bastille Day Ball 2018
From 6:30pm to 12:30am at Sony Hall, break out your dancing shoes for New York’s only official Bastille Day Ball established in 1924. Space is limited, register today by sending an e-mail to rsvp.new-york-fslt@diplomatie.gouv.fr.
Sunday, July 15th – Bastille Day Festival
The Bastille Day Festival will be held from noon-5pm on Sunday July 15th, 2018 on 60th street from 5th Avenue to Lexington Avenue. The afternoon will be filled with French food & wine, culture, and live entertainment. This festival has been presented by the French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) for over 20 years making this the largest public celebration of Bastille Day in New York. This year, July 15th is also the World Cup Final – watch a LIVE screening of the World Cup Final at 11am on the big screen in FIAF’s Florence Gould Hall. Space is limited.
